Germany, two days before the general election. In the popular talk show "Sechs gegen Neunzig", the shrewd presenter Frederic Neunzig offers the party candidates the opportunity to present their election platforms one last time. Harald Müllbeier, head of the temporary employment agency "Time for Talents", also sits on the panel as the voice of the people. While everyone is still fighting for their positions in the heated discussion, a woman storms into the studio and takes politicians and the company boss hostage.
Katharina and her son Stefan (16) live in a small town where everybody knows everybody. Stefan has been born with severe asthma. For years, the immigration officer Dr. Ludwig Sarheimer and the chairman of the Turkish community Cengiz Demirkan in Cologne have been fighting a small war. While the one, as a hodja, upholds the traditions of his homeland and brings Anatolian brides to Germany for Turks who are willing to marry, the other wants to prevent exactly that. Cengiz's daughter Lale Demirkan is at the center of these ongoing disputes. At home, the young woman plays the well-behaved Turkish daughter, but as soon as the German studies student leaves the house, she takes off her headscarf and sense of tradition and has fully arrived in German life. In her free time, she practises martial arts fighting techniques. So far, she has successfully fended off potential grooms.
Two worlds collide when the thoroughbred Swabian Roland Reuter is transferred to Duisburg by his employer, the bakery Weckle. There he is supposed to bring the downsized company branch back into the black. For the solid employee an immense challenge - not least because his wife Sybille and pubescent daughter at home in the country has remained. Thus, Roland works hard from Monday to Friday to implement Swabian work ethic for his staff, who are endowed with typical Ruhr-pot-serenity.
