Álvaro and Maria do Carmo lived happily in Angola. He was a successful businessman and she was a mild mannered housewife. They have two children together, Ana and João, who were studying and living their teenage years in Luanda... Until the day the civil war broke out and everything fell apart. Amidst declarations of independence, a wave of violence breaks out and the established peace and order fades away. In July, 1975, the Mendonça family, along with over five hundred thousand people, leave their belongings behind and embark on an air convoy that would become the biggest exodus in the history of the Portuguese people to a homeland that most only knew from photos and dubbed it Metropolis. In Lisbon, Joaquim and Natália, Álvaro’s brother-in-law and sister, take the Mendonça family in their small apartment, where they will try to get their lives back in order. However, over that hot summer of 1975, the integration seemed to be far from easy.

Vicente also works at this hospital in internal medicine. He’s married to Simone, who’s a vet at the Zoo. This couple will go through a messy divorce in which Vicente is in danger of losing custody of his children due to his affair with his colleague Alice. This series that follows the everyday lives of doctors fighting to save people's lives at a city hospital, but also the challenges and adventures of a team of veterinarians, biologists and zoo keepers who are committed to preserving their wildlife at the Zoo.

Filled with humour, strength and hope, these four friends have each other’s back unconditionally, in their highs and lows. As they’re hitting 30, new concerns come up, which they put off, such as marriage, motherhood and their own careers. When confronted with their first big disappointments in their adult lives, they’ll start to question the way they saw their future play out up until then... And the men in their lives as well... Their odd work hours and the distance that separates them leave little room for them getting together so, when their days off match and their flight schedule permitting, they get together and up to speed with each other. When everything in their lives seems to be decided for them, they’ll end up realizing that each day can turn into a new start after all.

Leonor and Pedro, are young, in love and from different social classes. She is the daughter of a wealthy man. He is from a modest working class family. They experience an intense but dramatically short love affair. When Pedro discovers Leonor’s father’s secret – that he sexually abused a maid – he is the victim of a hit and run accident, leaving him in a deep coma for 5 years. He later awakens to find out that his girlfriend, who was told he had died in the accident, moved on with her life and married someone else, after several years of grieving.
