The Jack Raymond Show is a radio program that's been broadcast every day for 49 years from a small, family-operated radio station in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. The host of the show is a mysterious figure who has a loyal local following, and still gets fan mail, but he's been dead for over 40 years. This film is the story of Jack Raymond and the eccentric radio station that has unwittingly influenced a generation of local musicians and artists. Featuring Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) and narration by Mark Borchardt (American Movie).
On the third night of a four-night stint at Radio City Music Hall, Bon Iver sauntered on stage in front of an almost sold out crowd, with frontman Justin Vernon only exclaiming a quick, “Cool!” before bursting into “Perth,” the first track of what would be a mind-blowing set. The eight-piece band, comprising strings, horns, keys and auxiliary percussion among others, played through all of its most recent album, Bon Iver, a couple of tracks from the Blood Bank EP and only one For Emma, Forever Ago track in the main set (“Creature Fear”).
4AD and Jagjaguwar have collaborated on a live session that captures a truly unique Bon Iver performance, featuring Justin Vernon and Sean Carey. On recent tours fans will have become accustomed to seeing Vernon flanked by an eleven-piece band, with the swell in numbers lending a grandiose element to even his most delicate songs. Sidestepping expectations, the idea Vernon presented for this session was to provide a wildly different experience.
Justin DeYarmond Edison Vernon is an American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the primary songwriter and frontman of indie folk band Bon Iver.
