Born on March 27, 1981, in Cuttack to parents Pravash Kumar Ray and Kalyani Ray, he grew up in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. He obtained a degree in history and later joined Barry John's theater group in Delhi in 2004. After acting in a few Bollywood movies, he moved to Mumbai and then shifted his focus to Ollywood films.
